See incredible marine wildlife and scenery in this archipelago within one of Costa Rica’s few marine protected areas. Hire a boat for the 2-4 hour ride from Cuajiniquil. Camp on Isla San José with permission from the Área de Conservación Guanacaste.

Humpback whales can be seen in the Cuajiniquil Bay during the rainy season, often with calves. Dolphins and pilot whales can also be seen.

Camp at the Murciélago sector of the Área de Conservación Guanacaste and use it as a jumping-off point for trips to Playa Hachal, Playa Blanca, and Bahía Santa Elena, all pristine beaches. Swim in the Poza del General, a swimming hole in the nearby Río Murciélago.
